Increasing the number of international publication is one of priority program in Universitas Brawijaya. According to the book “The Power of 50 Scientific Institution of Indonesia, the Scientific Publications Scopus Indexed Profile”, Universitas Brawijaya placed on the seventh rank of 50 institutions in Indonesia that produce Scopus Indexed publication, particularly from Faculty of Medicine. Improvement of this achievement is continuously programmed, particularly by grants hunting that related to colaboration and networking with research institutions. Regarding to this purpose, two World Class Professor (WCP) Programs grants from Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education were achieved by Faculty of Medicine this year.

Firstly, Department of Clinical Microbiology achive the WCP grant focusing to Infectious Disease topic, by inviting Prof. Henri A Verbrugh, MD, PhD from Department of Microbiology and Infectious Disease, Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, The Netherland. Limitated condition of skillful man power and hospital resources for microbiological diagnostic, and also irrational antimicrobial usage that resulting antimicrobial resistant organism are the main issues. The program series was international publication workshop, multicenter research workshop, seminar, case discussions and lectures related to infectious diseases. The program were intended for students, residents, and also lecturers in Faculty of Medicine Universitas Brawijaya.

Secondly, Department of Clinical Pathology in colaboration with Internal Medicine Department also achieve the WCP grant by inviting Prof. Salvatore di Somma from Faculty of Medicine and Psychology, Sapienza University of Rome, Sant’Andrea Hospital Rome. This program focused on several outcomes particularly in joint international publication, joint supervision for magister and doctoral students, initiating fellowship program for lecturer, and other outcomes such as lectures that colaborate the basic and clinical sciences.

This one month program is a step forward to support the vision of Universitas Brawijaya, to being a center of excellence that internationally recognize and actively participated in development of Indonesia.
